Carbon Minus means we produce more energy than we use. Being green is very important to us, we want to be the greenest wine business in the world, and we believe we’re well on the way.

As a business we are now powered almost completely by renewable wind & solar energy. This also offsets our transport fleets’ carbon footprint, with any excess power feeding into the National Grid.

Our three 50m EWT wind turbines were erected in 2011, 2013 & 2014 in difficult weather conditions, now providing over 5.5 million kW hours of electricity per year, with approximately 50% of this used ourselves.

In 2005 we built our much needed office extension, using the greenest available materials & techniques. Housing half of our offices, board & meeting rooms, catering kitchen & tasting room, our new home is powered by solar panels covering the roof. County Durham isn’t exactly known for long seasons of strong sunshine, so our turbines pick up any slack on darker days.

Our windows are high tech glass, helping us to control temperature, keeping us cool in summer & warm in winter. We heat & cool the building using air source heat pumps, which extract the heat from the air outside rather than use power. Our lighting is power saving & automatic, turning itself off when a room is not in use.

Our fleet of Volvo low emission vehicles, our collection of Nissan Leaf EVs, charged with wind generated power, & our new Mercedes & Volvo Euro 6 rated trucks, all keep our transport emissions as low as possible.

We install the UKs biggest ground water source heating systems to heat our two Felling warehouses close to the River Tyne. The bespoke equipment pumps water at 12°C from 120m below the surface, concentrating the heat to 50°C, & feeding it into the heating distribution system. The water is then returned to the ground at 6°C.
