A Cracking White……
From Central Otego, New Zealand and a staple of our MDs Christmas table, Domain Road Dry Riesling is a treat for dry white lovers. Produced from the traditionally sweeter Riesling grape, the whole grape bunches are hand harvested, then pressed and frementation stopped, resulting in a beautufully balanced dry white. A pale straw colour with a crispy acidity, aromas of mandarin and lime doninate the nose, followed by hints of floral ginger. Stone and citrus fruit flavours precede a well balanced, mineral finish.
Region: Central Otago, New Zealand
Varietal: 100% Riesling
No, this isn’t made by dogs. More about her in a minute. Domain Road Vineyard, near Bannockburn, Otega Valley is located in a valley naturally sheltered from the elements, creating the perfect micro-climate to produce great quality wines. Planted in the lower region of the vineyard, this Riesling is grown on land worked by 19th century gold miners, exposing a mineral rich ‘pipe clay’, the remnants of a 10 million year old lake bed. The stunning land formations on Domain Roads land are ghosts from the Gold Rush of the 1860s. This is evident in the exceptional mineral characteristics and depth of the wine grown here, as well as the non invasive, traditional wine growing methods favoured by Vineyard Manager Fiona Johnman and Winemaker Peter Bartle. The Domain Road resident dog Lucy also does her bit, keeping any pesky rodents clear of the vines, whilst generally being adorable.
