A grape by any other name………….
Our best selling Italian wine, Montepulciano D’Abruzzo Taverna Nova is extremely popular with restaurants and bars. The reason for this is its young, fresh drinking style – this isn’t a wine that needs to breathe for hours or age in bottle to be enjoyed at it’s best. Made from the titular Montepulciano grape, a large fruit with highly pigmented skins, giving the wine a deep, rich colour. Its relativly low acidity and smooth tannins are in contrast to other Italitan varietals, giving Montepulciano the signature smooth ‘glugable’ style. A moreish smooth red, vibrant purple bursting with cherry and violet aromas.
Region: Rosciano, Abruzzo, Italy
Varietal: 100% Montepulciano.
Food Match – Often easily matched with food, try this smooth red with Bolonese dishes, red meat and peppered sauces.
Produced by Casa Vinicola Roxan, nestled in the Abruzzo region of central Italy, the clay soil and climate here are perfectly suited to the Montepulciano grape. A co-operative producer with over 700 growers supplying fruit, Roxan is an important economic contributor to its rural location. An award winner, the Montepulciano D’Abruzzo is produced under DOC (Denominazione di origine controllata) designed to protect and ensure high standards if wines from a specific geographical origin.
